Posted on February 20, 2010 with 0 comments

Today I took part in a benefit to raise funds for the devastation in Haiti. It was a lovely event and help raise money as well as awareness for a situation that is by no means settled....please remember their struggle and if you can help, please donate through Worldvision Canada.

Thanks so much,

First block of shooting is over....

So it was with a degree of fear and nervousness that I embarked on this 'acting' business...not really sure of the process...not really sure if I could do it. Acting is very different from my usual day job !..... but I am pleased to report that end of the first week, I am feeling good about what I did. I have a feeling this movie is going to be amazing...not because of me, but because of the clever script and careful, sensitive direction of Michael McGowan. His vision is clear and he is a great communicator. I loved his film "One Week" with Joshua Jackson and in this one, "Score: A Hockey Musical", he has found and cast an amazing young actor, singer Noah Reid.

I have been fortunate also, in that my old friend Olivia Newton-John is playing my on-screen wife and I have been able to learn so much from her. She's been so generous in helping me learn this new craft and I think we created a good dynamic within our characters..
So there we are...first block of shooting done and I have loved [...]

So as I prepare for the shoot, I have been using new technology to run lines...as I mentioned before, I am playing the father of a hockey protege in a new movie called "Score : A Hockey Musical". My wife in the movie is being played by Olivia Newton-John who is an old friend and someone my real life wife, Amy Sky, has produced a couple of albums for. In fact Olivia and I have had some success with a duet called 'Instrument of Piece'.....anyway, the point of this blog is, that I have been trying to find a way to practice and run lines with Olivia. We're both in different parts of the world and won't be in the same city until we start shooting next week. Having tried by phone but unable to see one another's reactions, someone suggested we tried Skype.....and it has completely transformed how we do things...now we schedule time and can sit facing one another in different cities and run and learn our lines, working out our characters as we go.....it's great fun and makes the process, which [...]

It's Tuesday night and I have just got home from going out to see a show with my manager Dom. We were out to see a young artist called Jenna Glatt, she is the grand daughter of the amazing entrepreneur Harvey Glatt....the show was at Hugh's Room and is part of a series created by my old friend and publicist Jane Harbury...she puts on young up and coming singer/songwriters and performers. It's a great way to support and nurture new talent.
Dom picked me up and we set off in his car, a big Land Rover and perfect for the bad road conditions we have tonight in Toronto. It's freezing and snow flurries have made the roads like ice...on the way, we came over a bridge on Dundas and as the lights changed and Dom braked, his wheels locked and the car just kept moving....closer and closer to car in front... I was sitting there wondering what the impact would be like and how it my effect MY insurance....just as I was sure the car was about to hit the one in front, Dom made an incredibly adroit manoeuvre [...]
